The "ecologue" Approach to Computational Building Life Cycle Analysis

چکیده
Construction and operation of buildings is internationally a major cause of resource depletion and environmental pollution. Computational performance evaluation tools could support the decision making process in the area of environmentally responsive building design and play an important role in environmental impact assessment, especially when a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach is used. LCA requires extensive data collection for each relevant component or process within the boundaries of the assessment. The typical building contains many products from different manufacturers which are assembled in ways often unique to an individual building. For comprehensive environmental impact analysis to be realized in a computational support tool for the building design domain, such tools must a) have an analysis method that considers the life cycle of building construction, operation, and decommissioning, b) have a representation that is able to accommodate the data and computability requirements of the analysis method and the analysis tool and c) be seamlessly integrated within a multiaspect design analysis environment that can provide data on environmentally relevant building operation criteria. This paper describes the implementation of an application (ECOLOGUE) for comprehensive computational assessment of environmental impact indicators over the building life cycle. The application is embedded in a multi-aspect spacebased building design and evaluation environment (SEMPER). The paper demonstrates the use and results of the ECOLOGUE system via illustrative examples.

Determination of Optimum Insulation Thickness for Building Walls in Iran Using Life Cycle Cost Analysis
Air-Conditioning (AC) systems are responsible for a considerable portion of the energy consumption in buildings located in high cooling load requiring regions of Iran. In addition, the heat flow through the buildingschr('39') external walls plays a major role in cooling load estimations for the countrychr('39')s hot regions. Therefore, application of insulation materials in external walls has g...

Abstract Today, due to the rapid growth of population, development of the construction industry is a necessity. All around the world, new subjects such as sustainable development, environmental pollution, conservation of resources, and reduction of CO2 emission have become the most important research topics among the scientific societies. In recent years, especially after 1997, new tools were i...
متن کاملTechno- Economic and Life- Cycle Cost Assessment of the CCHP/ PV Hybrid System Application
In recent decades, excessive using fossil fuels has been resulted in emitting greenhouse gases such as CO2, consequently, environmental pollution. In this study, the techno-economic analysis of the CCHP/PV hybrid system application for a sample building was examined to reduce the environmental pollution and primary energy consumption of the buildings. The life-cycle cost analysis was...
متن کاملEnergy life cycle analysis of a residential building with the help of BIM in different climates of Iran
With energy resource scarcity and energy crisis in the world, energy efficiency has become a subject of great importance. In warm and humid climates as well as cold and mountainous ones, annual energy consumption is too high to achieve desirable living conditions in built environments, and hence energy efficiency measures and practices in such buildings is of utmost priority. Given the direct r...
متن کاملPredicting Low Cycle Fatigue Life through Simulation of Crack in Cover Plate Welded Beam to Column Connections
This paper presents a low cycle fatigue life curve by simulating a crack in a cover plate welded moment connection. Initiation of ductile fracture in steel is controlled by growth and coalescence of micro-voids. This research used a numerical method using finite element modeling and simulation of ductile crack initiation by a micromechanical model. Therefore, a finite element model of a cover p...
